five centuries of Anglican spirituality

Subtitled 'five centuries of Anglican spirituality, this book looks at 29 of the most influential Anglican figures from the 16th century to the present day. No major thinker is omitted: the book begins with Cranmer – a description of his life and work, followed by selected inspiring quotations and a few themes for personal reflection. Needless to say some of the names are less familiar while others are very well-known: Richard Hooker, John Donne, George Herbert, Thomas Traherne, William Law, Joseph Butler, the Wesleys, Samuel Johnson, John Keble, Evelyn Underhill, William Temple, C.S. Lewis and Desmond Tutu. It is a rich devotional collection that makes one aware of the scope of the tradition.
