The Goddess Calling
This book consists of inspirational messages meditations of sacred feminine liberation thealogy (note the spelling). It is a message of feminine empowerment, social justice and environmental responsibility characterised by eco-feminist spirituality. It is time for women to step forward to exercise their spiritual authority as also advocated by Anne Baring, whose work is not mentioned in this book - showing a gap between the US and Europe. Karen gives a ritual outline including singing and chanting, lighting a candle, a message of inspiration, storytelling, meditation, affirmations and a closing prayer and song. I found the UNEP litanies of forgetfulness and remembrance very touching and thought about using then in my local church - the prayer of gratitude states that we rejoice in all life and remember who we are. There is an explanation of the underlying politics, which is followed by 20 messages and 12 meditations that can be used on appropriate occasions. One particular insight relates to trusting in the journey rather than being too obsessed by the goal. The book can also be read over a longer period so that readers can reflect on the individual messages and inspirations.
