The Practical Well-being Programme
Activities and Exercises
This very useful book is the result of 30 years of development of a holistic approach to well-being in educational and social contexts. It was originally designed for therapeutic support for pupils experiencing various forms of behavioural difficulties - A Quiet Place - and looks at ways of supporting the whole person. Schools set aside a special room where the programme could be provided, consisting of emotional intelligence sessions, self-management biofeedback programmes and touch work involving massage of head hands or feet. The book describes both the approach and the exercises including the relaxed classroom, the relaxation response, physical aspects of well-being and the role of spirituality. There is an accompanying CD with some of the visualisations and other exercises. Each chapter encourages readers to use a reflective Journal and develop their vocabulary. While the book is aimed at a professional audience, the general reader will find many valuable suggestions.
