As the title suggests, this is the most authoritative guide to renewable energy for the interested general reader as well as the specialist. Each of these technologies is clearly explained with diagrams and a history of their implementation around the world. There is an introduction to the overall energy situation, arguing that renewables are the way of the future. Major sections deal with solar thermal and electric, biomass, wind power, water and geothermal power and new energy technologies such as fuel cells. There is then a survey of current use and potential and some frequently asked questions as well as a chapter on promoting renewable energy with particular reference to the situation in Germany. Highly readable and informative.
