A Guide to the World from Your Airplane Window
While we are all familiar with the process of flying, few of us know much about the science associated with it. When one comes to read this book, it is a revelation to find just how much science is involved at the airport, on board and in the air. There are of course bag checks and body scans, then all the details about the aeroplane itself and its navigation systems, not to mention the aerodynamics. Then there is the sky, views from above (here he assumes that crop circles are all man-made) including fractals, mountains and townscapes. The different forms of clouds are described, and there is some advice on jetlag and explanations or the science behind in flight entertainment. In short, a whole new world of flying opens up.
