Europe - a Continent with a Global Mission

This lavishly illustrated book is a spiritual biography of Europe by a Dutch philosopher of culture. It sets out an unusual perspective all human culture as an educational project where people pass through different phases and inner and esoteric truths are expressed in different eras. The author senses the need for the heart of Europe to be revived, especially since 1989, in the expression of a spirituality balancing masculine and feminine qualities and seeking harmony with nature. The reader is taken on a historical odyssey from prehistory through Greece, the beginnings of Christianity, Druidry, the Celts, Bogomils and Cathars, mediaeval schools and cathedrals, the Reformation, the rise of science and nationalism, and other forces shaping modern life. The last section provides an original analysis of the birth of a new spirituality, including Rudolf Steiner and Peter Deunov, both of whom proposed practical spiritualities. The role of many other figures is considered, but the overall message is that we have become more aware of the spiritual dimensions of reality. It is an inspiring and integrating vision showing that the seeds of a new European spiritual culture are indeed germinating in our time.
