Religion and Science in Context

A Guide to the Debates

This book gives a critical contextual overview and a guide to the debates in between religion and science. His position is that scientific understanding leaves certain ultimate questions open, so that it is intellectually plausible to argue for a creator but also for naturalism or agnosticism. The author analyses the place of values in relation to facts and offers a critique of multi-author volumes where advocates write about controversial positions, which leads to diversity and disagreement within traditions being played down and representation of the author's position as traditional. Ultimately, he sees the field as a cultural one in which we explore the ways in which religious identities and scientific knowledge shape our responses to reality.
