Catherine's Gift
Inside the World of Dr Catherine Hamlin
An inspirational book documenting the work of Dr Catherine Hamlin and her husband Reg, who have been working in Ethiopia since 1959 (Reg died in 1993). In that time, she has conducted over 30,000 operations for a condition called fistula, an injury that occurs during obstructive labour and results in uncontrollable incontinence. Those suffering from the condition are rejected by their society, so that Hamlin's intervention has enabled tens of thousands of women to return to normal life. The work is, like that of Mother Teresa, underpinned by prayer and faith. At the age of 83, she continues her work - see www.hamlinfistulauk.com then the corresponding websites in other countries.
