This is a book ahead of its time, which has received considerable recognition from top physicians, including Prof. Ian Gilmore, president of the Royal College of Physicians, and Sir Andy Haines of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. In addition, the foreword is by the chairman of the IPCC. The first part provides information about greenhouse gas emissions, climate change and the relationship between health and the natural environment. The second is a call to action, covering policy, low carbon communities, individual and organisational change, and ways in which the health service can act. The content is very clearly set out, with a summary and key terms defined at the beginning of each essay. The message of the book as a whole is that there are considerable health benefits to acting on climate change, which of course will vary depending on geography.
