You are the light - Rediscovering the Eastern Jesus

The author is a Camaldolese monk and close follower of Fr Bede Griffiths - he still lives at Shantivanam in South India. Here he follows on from the work of Fr Bede, Fr Henri le Saux and Fr Jules Monchanin by drawing out a more Eastern perspective on 'the good news of Jesus Christ'. In the first part he tells his own story and experience of Christianity. This is followed by a section of meditations on the Beatitudes, his vision of a new Christianity and a comparison of Advaita (non-duality) in Hinduism and the West. Br John Martin is very critical of the ways in which Christianity has limited itself over the last 2,000 years, forgetting the words of Jesus enshrined in his title. Closed systems, structures and beliefs have prevailed, cutting off the majority from direct contact with God and sharing Jesus's own insight on non-duality. This is an inspiring new contemplative vision.
