The Millennium Problems

Subtitled ' The Seven Greatest Unsolved Mathematical Puzzles of Our Time', this book gives the background of the competition sponsored by the Clay Mathematical Institute (see www.claymath.org for a technical description). Each problem is worth $1 million to the person who solves it. They were decided by an international panel of experts including Sir Michael Atiyah and announced at a meeting in Paris. For the uninitiated the problems of the Riemann hypothesis and the Poincare Conjecture will mean little, but this book gives a relatively non-technical account that will not completely bamboozle the general reader.
